Crampton Painting & Decorating’s origins started with just Rod Crampton, the family car and a small ‘tradie trailer’, oh, and a 3 week old baby!

Rod reflects: “Our business kinda started more out of necessity than anything else, having to provide for my family. New to Bendigo, I was grateful to be given the opportunity to paint for my brother-in-law (also a painter)’ and from there was able to slowly secure small jobs, eventually a few builders’. 

Rod Crampton, a qualified Painter & Decorator with over 20 years of experience, started out as a very young 16-year-old apprentice. A young kid who always needed to be busy (and now a big kid who still needs to be busy) Rod knew that finishing school wasn’t for him. A local ad in the paper led Rod to start his apprenticeship with a large painting company in NSW. Rod was soon appointed leading hand and ran both commercial and domestic painting jobs. 

A young father at 18, in the Army reserves and working, Rod also played Soccer every weekend,   (remember, we said earlier ‘needs to be kept busy!’), well Rod still plays soccer now locally, having been awarded MVP (most valued player) last season. Rod currently coaches the juniors at FC Eaglehawk and is also on the Junior Committee. Outside of soccer season, Rod can be seen running laps around Bendigo, training for his next Marathon.

A man who is dedicated to his work, soccer and running, Rod is the  very proud father of 5 gorgeous kids, and in his own words ‘my kids are my world & my greatest achievement of ALL!’ 

Behind the scenes is Mel, responsible for running the everyday admin duties of operating a small business. She is accompanied in the office by Julie, a long time family friend. Also joining the ladies in the office is ‘Belle’, Rod & Mel’s 5yo blue eyed Husky! 

So there you have it, a small insight into Crampton Painting & Decorating. A small business with a big emphasis on ‘family’.
